Edward Harold Wheatley, 69, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
Friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbia. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the church with Fr. Chris Cordes officiating. Interment will follow at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville.
He was born on June 7, 1950 in Dallas City, Illinois, the son of the late Claude and Henrietta (Clark) Wheatley. Edward was married on Aug. 26, 1972 in Keokuk, Iowa to Therese M. Marlin.
Edward was a 1969 graduate of Keokuk Senior High School and a 1984 Columbia College graduate. Edward was a retired Army E-7 SFC who received several medals and recognitions, including the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star. In his 22 years of military service, he served during the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. He also retired after 20 years of service to the state of Missouri. Edward was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed refurbishing and repairing automobiles. He was working on restoring a 1962 Chevrolet Impala after previously completing a 1956 Chevrolet Bel-Air and a 1974 Chevrolet Corvette.
He is survived by his wife, Therese Wheatley; daughter, Jennifer Wheatley; son and daughter-in-law, Michael (Molly) Wheatley; brother, Don Wheatley; sister, Carolyn (Kenny) Soper both of Keokuk; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Herbert Wheatley.
Expressions of sympathy may be made for Masses at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or to the Central Missouri Honor Flight.
