CHILLICOTHE – A new chapter for Chillicothe baseball is about to be unveiled as the Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce hosts a ribbon cutting at Chuck Haney Field on Wednesday, May 29, at 6 p.m. The ceremony marks the completion of recent renovations at the field, which sits within Shaffer Memorial Park at 300 Mack Street.
The celebration will welcome community members, baseball fans, and supporters of local progress to see firsthand the updates made to the field. Attendees will also have a chance to meet the Chillicothe Mudcats, the hometown baseball team that calls the field home.
With improvements aimed at enhancing the park’s facilities and overall game day experience, the ribbon cutting serves as both a symbolic and literal opening of the season. The event offers a moment for neighbors and fans to gather, connect, and celebrate shared hometown pride.
Chuck Haney Field continues to be a staple of Chillicothe’s summer spirit, and the ceremony is expected to draw a lively crowd ready to cheer on the Mudcats and the future of local baseball.
Haney was the former mayor of Chillicothe as he was known as “Mr. Chillicothe.” He was also the editor and publisher emeritus of the Constitution-Tribune where he was a part of our newspaper for a total of 34 years. He was known for his continued support of Chillicothe and surrounding communities and the field continues to represent his legacy.
