Mullikin, Callen, Jones each post two contested victories as Chillicothe grapplers improve season record to 15-4 in dual-match competition
CARROLLTON, Mo. — The Chillicothe (Mo.) HS Hornets won 11 of the 16 wrestled bouts and received an additional 11 forfeitures, due to lack of an opponent, as they won both outings in a double-dual against host Carrollton and Richmond Tuesday night (Jan. 8, 2019).
Winning twice each in active competition for the Hornets (15-4) were Kaleb Mullikin at 170 pounds, Matt Callen at 220, and Lavery Jones at 132. Both of Jones’ and Mullikin’s triumphs were by fall, while Callen had a win by fall and one by decision.
Prevailing in their lone contested bouts were Dawson Wheeler, Jake Chapman, Donald McCracken, Sheldon Rader, and Colton Sewell. Chapman’s, Sewell’s, and McCracken’s triumphs were by falls, Rader’s by technical fall, and McCracken’s by decision.
In the dual match against Carrollton, Chillicothe registered a 62-7 conquest with the host Trojans “open” in five weight classes. There was one weight – 120 – in which neither team had a wrestler.
The fastest of the Hornets’ contested victories against Carrollton was Jones’ 40-seconds pin.
Chillicothe came out on top of Richmond for a second time this season, this time 57-21. Richmond was without an entrant at six weights, accounting for exactly its margin of victory.
The quickest finish in the Hornets’ favor again was provided by Jones, who ended his bout in 1:36.
The Chillicothe wrestlers will have a home double-dual Thursday, welcoming Brookfield and Gallatin in action starting at 5:30 p.m. in the middle school fieldhouse.
