Four C-T-area high school basketball teams – the Meadville boys and Tina-Avalon, Hale-Bosworth, and Norborne girls – extended their 2018-19 seasonswith district-tournament semifinal victories Thursday night (Feb. 21), while twice that number, including Chillicothe's boys, rang down the curtain.

In the Class 1 District 11 Tournament at Tina-Avalon School, the top-seeded host girls and Meadville boys and the third-seeded Hale-Bosworth Lady Cardinals advanced to Saturday night's title games.

T-A's Lady Dragons (16-4) handled Meadville's girls 55-33 and MHS' Eagles (21-3) surprisingly routed long-time nemesis Glasgow 71-41. Hale-Bosworth's girls (16-6) made it an unusually-bad night all around for Glasgow, knocking out the second-seeded Lady ’Jackets 56-52 by outscoring them 23-14 in the last quarter behind Hayes Heussner's 15 tallies.

The neighboring Tina-Avalon and Hale-Bosworth girls club's will square off for a trip to the state tournament Saturday at 7:30 p.m. after the Meadville boys duel Slater at 6 p.m. Slater swamped second seed Mendon: Northwestern 61-38 in a rematch of last year's district-championship game at Tina-Avalon, which Slater also claimed, 76-68.

In Class 1 District 13 action at Braymer Thursday, Norborne's Lady Pirates (18-2) made it three Carroll-Livingston Activity Association (CLAA) girls' teams reaching district finals, controlling things all the way in a 41-31 win over Hardin-Central.

Seeing their season come to an end at Braymer were the Southwest Livingston Wildcats. They fell behind Wellington-Napoleon 25-13 after one period and couldn't make any headway in recovering, eventually falling 74-59. The SLHS boys ended their season 19-3.

Braymer's girls also fell in District 13, losing to top seed Wellington-Napoleon 50-37. The boys' No. 1 seed, Winston, cruised by Orrick, 60-32.

Chillicothe's Hornets lost to Richmond, 38-35, in Class 3 play at Higginsville.

In Class 2, both Hamilton: Penney squads were defeated, the girls 68-61 in overtime by host Mid-Buchanan and the boys53-41 by top seed East Buchanan.

Thursday's four area survivors join Chillicothe's girls, who won their semifinal Wednesday, and Linn County's boys, who advanced to the Class 1 District 12 finals Tuesday, in being a win away from state play.

Chillicothe's Lady Hornets will try to shock undefeated Trenton in a 5:30 p.m. game Friday at Higginsville's Lafayette County C-1 School.

Linn County's boys will go against top seed La Plata at LCHS' gym in Purdin Friday at 6 p.m.

At Braymer Friday, Norborne's Lady Pirates will try to secure a fifth district championship in a row in a 7:30 p.m. test against Wellington-Napoleon.
