Hornets drop pair on links to host, Plattsburg

LAWSON, Mo. — With a different lineup from their 2019 season opener last week, Chillicothe (Mo.) HS’ golf Hornets had a tougher day in their second outing Tuesday, April 2.
Playing the Hidden Valley course at Lawson, Chillicothe did not have anyone score better than a 53 as it lost a double-dual to the host Cardinals and nearby Plattsburg.
With superior balance as all of their players shot in the 40s, Plattsburg’s Tigers posted the matchs best low-4 team score at 187. Lawson was close behind with a 189, paced by match medalist Jack Evans’ 43, and CHS was well back at 226.
Tuesday’s team total was 13 strokes higher than in the Hornets’ first competition of the season at Savannah.
With Dalton Ripley, who had the Hornets’ second-best score in the debut, and Spencer Shira replaced in the varsity-only lineup, Chillicothe had only C.J. Williams break 55 at the Lawson layout. He posted a 53.
Also in the Hornets’ scoring quartet were freshman Gage Leamer (in his varsity debut) and Colby Gillespie with 56s and Spencer Riddle with a 61. Keegan Valbracht shot a 66.
Next for the Chillicothe golfers is to be dual match at Brookfield next Monday.
