Sophomore's season-best 45 leads to 204-211 win over BHS Bulldogs at Brookfield Monday (April 8, 2019)
BROOKFIELD, Mo. — Sophomore Colby Gillespie shared medalist honors with a team season-best 9-holes round of 45 Monday (April 8, 2019) as the Chillicothe (Mo.) HS golf Hornets picked up their second dual-match victory of the season, 204-211 over host Brookfield.
Gillespie, the only Hornet to score in the 40s thus far in three competitions, bested his March 27 score at Savannah by two strokes to show the way to the win. His effort dropped his season average just under 50 shots (49.3).
Although the host Bulldogs’ top player, Jarrett Morris, also posted a 45 and BHS’ second-best round – a 51 by Dirk Sattman – was a shot better than the Hornets’ second-best – a 52 by C.J. Williams, Chillicothe’s third- and fourth-lowest rounds turned the match CHS’ way.
Spencer Riddle of the Hornets came around in 53 shots and Spencer Shira in 54, while Brookfield’s third-best total was Lane Thudium’s 55 and its last team-scoring round was a 60 by Sam Clarkson.
Not used for the team tallies were the 55 of Dalton Ripley of CHS and 62 of Brookfield’s Dillon Sackrey.
The triumph moved Chillicothe’s dual-matches record to 2-4.
The Hornets’ varsity will play in Wednesday’s Cameron Invitational Tournament, beginning at 9 a.m.
