Members of the Ballet Arts Dance Company brought home the award for the high scoring production number at Talent on Parade National Dance Competition July 7-12.

“After being out of the studio for two months this spring due to COVID-19, they worked hard when they were able to get back to class this summer and that dedication paid off at their last competition of the year. This competition season was unlike any they’ve experienced due to events being canceled and postponed,” said Teresa Foli creative director, choreographer and instructor at Ballet Arts said.

The Talent on Parade competition was the largest one Ballet Arts has ever attended with

more than 1700 routines over seven days of competition.

“Receiving an overall award was an unexpected, but very exciting surprise for these dancers who’d had their competition season interrupted by stay at home orders,” Foli said.

The members of the group study ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop and pointe classes on a weekly basis, spending between four and eight hours at the dance studio each week and many of them also compete with solos, duets, and trio routines.

Dancers are currently preparing for their end of the year recital which will be held at the Dickinson Performing Arts Center on Friday, Aug. 7, and will feature, the competitive dancers, and also all recreational students who dance just one or two hours per week.

Ballet Arts opened in Chillicothe in 1992 at 424 Locust St., which is now home to the Cultural Corner. Foli said, ss the studio grew, it was moved to its current location on the east side of the square at 619 Locust.

“The studio is the home of the Ballet Arts Dance Company, but also serves as a fun outlet for many area youth, boys and girls alike, to experience the joy of dance. Due to COVID-19, and the studio being closed during the spring months, Ballet Arts will be offering some short end of summer camps for those wanting to get a taste of what dance is about,” Foli said. “There are classes for beginners as well as those with experience.”
