Mizzou gymnasts McCrary, Schaffer cap season at NCAA championships

A pair of Missouri gymnasts concluded their campaigns at the NCAA championships Friday in Fort Worth, Texas.

Junior Hannah McCrary and freshman Sydney Schaffer competed as individuals in the afternoon semifinal.

McCrary earned a 9.8 from the six-judge panel on the floor exercise for 25th overall, while Schaffer recorded a 9.525 on beam in the final rotation for 26th.

McCrary led the Tigers with five scores of 9.9 or better on floor on the season.

Schaffer competed on beam in every meet in 2021 and notched seven scores of 9.8 or better, including five of 9.85 or higher.

McCrary and Schaffer were the 11th and 12th Tiger gymnasts to earn individual qualifications to NCAAs in program history.

The Tigers finish the season ranked No. 14 nationally as a team.

Ciccolini breaks Mizzou javelin record

Skylar Ciccolini broke the Missouri track and field record in the women's javelin Friday at the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, Alabama.

With a throw of 56 meters (183 feet, 9 inches), Ciccolini placed first in the event and overtook teammate Sophia Rivera for the top spot in the record book. The freshman also moved up in the national ranks, as she now holds the fifth-best mark in the country.

Redshirt junior Melissa Menghini placed second in the women's 3K steeplechase with a time of 10:14.32. Menghini, who holds the school record in the event, now ranks 22nd nationally. 

Freshman William Sinclair paced the Missouri men with a time of 14:04.40 in the 5K race. Sinclair finished with a time of 14:04.40, a new personal best and the second-fastest time in program history.

Cougar men win AMC soccer tourney

Top-seeded Columbia College men's soccer earned the American Midwest Conference Tournament championship Friday with a 1-0 win against Missouri Baptist.

Parker Moon found the back of the net in the 17th minute, with assists from Nathan Durdle and Antonio Aranda.

Liam Gibbs made one save in the shutout.

The Cougars have secured an automatic bid to the NAIA Opening Round, for which matchups will be announced Monday.
