With Fourth of July almost upon us, many are making plans on how to celebrate America and its independence. But some states are exceptionally patriotic throughout the year.

Personal finance site WalletHub ranked all 50 states to determine which were the most patriotic, looking at rates of military engagement and civic engagement.

Here are the 10 most patriotic states in the U.S. according to WalletHub's study.

New Hampshire Wyoming Vermont Utah Idaho Wisconsin Alaska South Carolina Missouri  Minnesota

Vermont ranked first in civic engagement, while Alaska topped the list for military engagement. New Jersey was determined to be the least patriotic state, ranked 48th in military engagement and 45th in civic engagement.

Based on the ranking, WalletHub also determined that states that voted Republican in the 2016 election were more patriotic than those that voted Democrat.
